This tour was absolutely one of the best days of my life! Honestly, I was nervous when I booked this because I hadn’t ridden a bike in ages and wasn’t sure I was fit enough. These worries were put to rest after I arrived at the office and found out there was a “sag wagon” tuk tuk accompanying us!
I didn’t think it was possible to top my day at Anckor Wat but this tour definitely did!!!!! I was picked up promptly at my hotel, a short stop at the office and then we were off. I was the only participant that day which was fabulous! We hit the red dirt heading out of Siem Reap and started riding through the fascinating countryside. My guides were FANTASTIC – they treated me like a queen and it was fabulous being able to stop whenever I wanted and any question I had was answered.
Our first stop was at a local market where my guide, Mr. O, bought some things I liked for our morning snack. We toured the market and tried the delicious spicy tamarind clams – delicious. We also stopped at a local school which was absolutely fabulous. As a former English teacher in Asia, it was so wonderful to walk around the school and be greeted by the loads of smiling, friendly beautiful children. I even got to play on the playground with them.
We hit the dirt again and stopped a bit later for our morning snack. The tuk tuk driver was also FANTASTIC – preparing the fruits for a delicious snack. The guides could not have been more helpful, friendly, supportive and FUN. We toured a few temples, loaded the bikes in the tuk tuk and headed for a delicious lunch in a beautiful spot on the river. After lunch there was time for a short rest in the hammock and then it was back on the bikes. I can’t describe the freedom I felt riding, we were constantly stopping to check out local market stands, chat with children and get a feel for the real Cambodia.
The ride was not difficult at all! I made it almost to the end, about 1 km short of our stopping point which was no problem. We loaded the bikes into the tuk tuk and headed for the floating village. We jumped into a private boat, wandered up the canal looking at the fascinating floating village until we hit beautiful Tonle Lake as the sun was setting. It was quite a sight! We stopped at a restaurant on the water to watch the sunset with a few Angkors and snacks to celebrate our accomplishment! The sunset was gorgeous and we were the last ones to leave the restaurant. We headed back through the Floating Village in the dark which was beautiful in a different way and provided a very unique perspective. Once we arrived back at the dock, the tuk tuk driver took me back to my hotel – a bit tired, sore and covered with red dirt but glowing on the inside from absolutely one of the best days of my life.
As I said, I was a bit nervous as to my ability to do this tour. I’m not especially fit and hadn’t been on a bike in ages but it was easy and the tuk tuk was always there with water, drinks, etc if you needed to rest or are tired and need a break from the bikes. I was definitely sore the next day but the feeling of accomplishment combined with the beautiful countryside and fascinating people soothed my sore muscles.
If you’re interested in getting away from the tourist track and seeing more of the “real” Cambodia accompanied by awesome guides, BOOK THIS TOUR!!!!!!! I honestly can’t speak highly enough about it. Enjoy!!!!!
I had joined bike tour with this company and had a really great experience to see the floating villages in a differently way. Our guide was really friendly and gave us a lot of information about the people living there and the Tonle Sap story in general. The cycling trails was wonderful as we stop often to visit local community and get to see different perspective of lives in the countryside.
Food was good and I also met a group of nice people and could enjoyed watching the sunset together. It was amazing trip and I definitely recommend Siem Reaper.
Thanks to Georges and Marco, we had a wonderful cycling day in the countryside. Marco took me directly from my hostel with his Tuk-Tuk, we picked the bicycles (very good mountain bikes). We began to ride on paths to George’s village, through the rice fields. We stopped when we wanted, to ask about something we saw or to take a picture. We visited the market, bought some fruits, visited a mushroom farm, and also the ceremonial in the village! Later we stopped in a pagoda where Georges talked to us about Buddhism. For lunch we had a several very good typical meal to share, and time to rest in a hammock… In the afternoon we saw two old temples lost in the forest, and arrived just in time to take the boat to the floating villages. The sunset through the floating forest on Tonlé Sap was a wonderful moment, sitting on front of the boat with a cold beer…
The team was so friendly I felt as in family. I discovered local usages, food, and the beautiful countryside around Siem Reap, with my favorite mean of transport : bicycle.
Thank you very much Georges and Marco!
