Day 2: Cycle the Angkor Temples

After breakfast at the hotel, you start biking the morning temple exploration at the most illustrious temple with fewer crowds. First, you will visit Ta Prohm which is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found- overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground. This makes the so-called Tomb Raider Temple, as it was used during the filming of the movie, one of the most picturesque and memorable temples of the Angkor complex.

You will then head out to the ancient city of Angkor Thom, enter the city through the ancient Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with elephants and four giant faces. From here, continue to Bayon Temple, found in the center of the city famed as the enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs.

You will take a break at lunch and stop at the local restaurant to enjoy tasteful Cambodian dishes.

Lastly, you will bike to the gem of the Angkor complex, Angkor Wat. Following your tour leader, you will be mesmerized by the rich history and symbolism of this unique ancient temple. Afterwards, you will return to your hotel.

DEPOSIT

When booking this tour, you’ll be required to pay a deposit to guarantee your place. This tour requires $150 deposit and the rest of the payment will be done upon you arrive at our office.

PASSPORT

The visitors to Cambodia require a passport to enter the country and all travelers must hold a passport with the validation for 6 months after their planned exit from Cambodia.

VISAS

Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh & Siem Reap international airports without prior registration. Visa issued on arrival for most nationalities, US $30/pax, please bring 1 passport photo. You also can get a visa in advance at
www.evisa.gov.kh

MEET YOUR GUIDE & DRIVER

You will be met by your tour guide and driver at your arrival point. They will be holding a Siem Reaper name board with your name on it. It is possible you will be a little bleary-eyed after a long flight and there are also likely to be a large number of meeting boards being displayed, so please take your time to locate them.

CAMBODIA WEATHER

The country has two distinct weather seasons but we can travel all year round in Cambodia. Our wet season runs from May to September and the dry season from October until April and the heaviest rainfall usually in August & September. The cooler is 24°C around November/December and hottest hitting 35°C around April/May.

DRINK

Keeping you completely hydrated is a job we take very seriously. Cold water, some energy-restoring local fruit, and soft drinks are included in the tour price while riding. Soft drinks and other beverages during meals are not included. Beer is freely available everywhere but is NOT included in the price.

MONEY

The currency of Cambodia is called ‘Riel’, and there are however no needs to change the currency into riel as US dollars are accepted everywhere. Please kindly note that ripped, torn, or old bills will not be accepted. ATM machines are available in the main cities across the country and mostly in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Banks are open Monday to Friday from 08:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday morning until 12:00 PM. Most hotels and restaurants in the major cities will charge US dollars, but for other currencies, it is advisable to visit a bank. Traveller’s checks can be exchanged at banks and some hotels, but it is not usable outside of the major cities. We would highly recommend using Visa Card or Master Card, as they are now accepted in many hotels, restaurants, and shops in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. As if you wish to travel in a local taxi (Tuk-Tuk), make sure to have the right amount of cash and change with you as the drivers are unlikely to keep a lot of cash with them.

EXTRA EXPENSE

We recommend that you tuck away a few extra dollars, perhaps US$30, for incidentals.

TERRAINS

The terrain is varied, mainly flat and follows by the mixture of tarmac roads and dirt roads passing the countryside & Angkor complex. We cycle on backroads with lovely open landscapes and leisurely with plenty of stops to rest or take photos. Our Siem Reaper guides can also easily accommodate type riders, who seek less ride with a boost in the van.

FITNESS LEVELS

This tour is tailor-made to suit cyclists of all levels of experience, fitness, and all ages with different backgrounds. Siem Reaper requires all of the cyclists to enjoy the challenges but should respect everyone’s limits of cycling. The tours are designed so everyone can go at their own pace, and bear in mind that this is not a race.

BIKE & PERSONAL EQUIPMENT

We strongly recommend that you ride a mountain bike for our trips involved in asphalt, dirt, and backroads that some are sandy and rocky. If you are much more comfortable with your own stuff, we highly suggest bringing such as pedal, saddle, helmets, and water bottles. Our mechanic will adjust to your bikes and personal stuff.

BIKE REPAIRS

The tools and spares are carried by your tour guide in the vehicle along with a full toolkit for the tour. However, it is also gauche for us to carry spares for every eventuality, therefore, it is necessary that when before departing, you should have a quick look at your two-wheel fellow whether it is in good order.

SAFETY

We recommend you to wear a helmet all our biking adventures and is non-negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour guide is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree, you must be responsible for your own safety while riding.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel insurance is not covered in the tour price. You can organize travel insurance with your preferred insurance company. As medical facilities in Cambodia are rather limited, so it is imperative for you to take out a good medical insurance policy when travelling.

SOLO TRAVELER

We do not require you to pay a surcharge for traveling alone. We will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveler of the same gender and if we can not match you up we will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room.

I booked this tour thinking that we would do a bit more than other tourists. But in the end it’s a real immersive experience with locals. Each day was blow minding. Biking let’s you feel real sensations of the country. At some points you’ll get used to let your comfort on the side and share unforgettable memories. When I get the chance to go back with friends, I’m a 110% that I would do the same. Thank you so much for this experience Lee, you were the one that gave me goosebumps! And thank you Marco for your patience and smile you were very sweet!

FANTASTIC TRIP, GREAT COMPANY

This trip was brilliant to see loads of Siem Reap in a quick time frame – just did 4 days and it’s the best experience and decision we have ever made. Our tour leader Sovuth spoke excellent English and took us to all the unique attractions where there was hardly found by any tourists. He made sure we were safe and would inform us what we could and couldn’t do. We never feel rushed since we could just relax and properly explore the area. The bicycle, transportation and accommodation provided were great, and the activities offered were the best selection from the area.

Highlight – food tour down the Siem Reap street food with plenty of local food selection we choose from. Amazing food great people and an insiders view of an amazing part of the world. The bike tour to Angkor Wat and Floating Village were great. We learned so much from the rich history and local ways of life in Cambodia.

Highly recommend Siem Reaper if you are looking to explore Cambodia in a short time and see all the highlights. Book this trip it’s so interesting with so many things to see, we still can’t believe we have been.

I travelled with my friend to Cambodia was one place where I was apprehensive about, but travelling with Siem Reaper took the worry away. The 4 days trip covers all the highlights of Siem Reap and Angkor Wat temples and we also get to visit smaller places that we would have missed by travelling by bike and of course – FOOD was incredible. We get the authentic experience, instead of just visiting places filled with other tourists. The bike tour gave us the opportunity to visit local places and the hidden off the beaten track. The great thing about the tour was our tour guide (Sokvuth). He was fantastic with his knowledge and passion for Cambodia. Our trip would not have been complete without the expertise, passion and commitment of our guides. He was so helpful, friendly and a lot of fun and he took care of us from the moment we stepped on the tour. He told pretty much everything out for us and made our tour run very smoothly and even teaching us some of the local languages. We definitely loved his enthusiasm, I loved hearing of his personal experiences, he really made our trip whole. So thank you for the great host. Another great thing about this tour was the people you meet on the way, we made lots of great friends that we will see later on in our travels. Although, the Angkor Wat temple was amazing archticture with the rich history and culture. We also get to see the local lives on the floating village of Tonle Sap and learn so much from our guide. Overall experience was stunning and exceeded all our expectations.

Fabulous Food Cycling

A great bike ride in the countryside around Siem Reap in local villages, markets, hidden temples, farm life and floating village. All capped off with fabulous food experiences, the highlight being the village cooking class culminating in a fantastic lunch. The guys (George, Marco, Red and Bo) were super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Put simply, a superb experience.

There was nothing to dislike. One must expect all of the trappings of country life and local villages and there were no surprises here. All to be expected and the people are so happy and friendly. A wonderful reality check.
